Federal Reserve board chairman Alan Greenspan said most of the gains in the level and growth rate of productivity since 1995 have been structural, not cyclical, and largely driven by "irreversible advances in technology and its application".
"The evidence of a decided improvement in the growth rate of structural productivity from the macro data has continued to strengthen," Greenspan said in a speech prepared for delivery to the New York Association for Business Economics.
